Emerging Scholars Program (ESP) The Emerging Scholars Program at Wayne State University is an honors-level Calculus and Precalculus program with a very strong and continuing student support component. It is designed to increase the number of students, particularly students from underrepresented minority groups and women, who succeed and excel in Calculus and who thereby have the opportunity to pursue careers in fields such as Engineering, Science, Mathematics or Mathematics Education. It is a program based on a two-fold philosophy that centers on a shared commitment to excellence and a strong sense of community.
Pre-Emerging Scholars Program (PREP) For students that enter the University without the basic Mathematics skills necessary to take Precalculus, the PREP program offers a remedial Algebra course that is based on the same principals as the Emerging Scholars Program and prepares students to continue forward in ESP. Students in the PREP program show results comparable to those in the ESP program.
