Leonard Boehm
Leonard Boehm, Associate Director of the WSU Math Corps, has been involved in the mathematics education of Detroit’s children for most of his career. As a consultant with the Detroit Public Schools in the late 1980’s, he was instrumental in the creation of Super Saturdays, at that time a DPS program through the Gifted and Talented department. Currently, Mr. Boehm holds the WSU Math Corps Lectureship position in which he, as a Master Teacher, teaches fifth through eighth grade discovery classes in advanced Mathematics to Detroit students and Math Education courses for future teachers at Wayne State. He is an integral part of the Math Corps summer and Saturday programs and teaches colleges courses in the WSU Emerging Scholars Program. A graduate of Wayne State, Mr. Boehm holds B.S. degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics as well as a M.A. in Mathematics.


Kishya Curry
Kishya Curry's passion for the work that Math Corps does began with her own experience as a student in the program when she was only in the fourth grade. She began her Math Corps career in the summer of 1995 as a High School Teaching Assistant and was later selected to do special research for Math Corps. After completing her summer research assignment, she received a special invitation to join the Wayne State University Mathematics Department research team. After graduating from high school, Ms. Curry decided to attend Wayne State University to be closer to her Math Corps family and served as a College Assistant. She is now the Administrative Assistant for the Center for Excellence and Equity in Mathematics.


Anne Graziana
Anne Graziana is the Program Coordinator for Math Corps.  She has worked with the program since 1996 when she joined as a College Instructor while pursuing her bachelor’s degree. Following graduation from Wayne State University with a B.A. in Mathematics and certification in Secondary Education, she continued working summers in Math Corps as a Grade Supervisor while teaching high school mathematics throughout the school year. In 2005, Math Corps expanded and started a new site for which Anne served as the Dean of Students.  Based upon her extensive knowledge of the program and passion for working with the students, she began working for Math Corps full time as the Program Coordinator.     


Wytrice Harris
Wytrice Harris, Program Coordinator for the WSU Math Corps College Success Center (MCCSC), is a non-traditional college student who decided to pursue a more fulfilling career after eight years in the banking industry. Desiring to combine her strong sense of community with her love for education, she graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Psychology and a B.S. in Mathematics. Following graduation, Ms. Harris began working on her graduate degree at Wayne State University in the fall of 2004. During her studies at Wayne she discovered the family atmosphere and sense of community cultivated by the WSU Math Corps and decided she had to become a part of something so great. She joined the Math Corps family in the summer of 2005 as an instructor and has taught both in the Summer Camp and the Super Saturday programs. In 2006 she received an M.A. in Mathematics and decided to continue her education as a doctoral candidate in WSU’s School of Education. Ms. Harris has taught and tutored mathematics and life skills in numerous community and church organizations and has also taught at an alternative high school for troubled teens. Harris lives by the motto that "if better is possible, good is never enough" and is working hard to provide the very best resources to help Math Corps students succeed at Wayne State.


Steve Kahn
Professor Steve Kahn is the Director of the WSU Center for Excellence and Equity in Mathematics, a series of programs designed to produce success for Detroit students as they pursue their education from elementary and middle school through high school and college. Built by Dr. Kahn, the two cornerstone programs of the Center, the WSU Math Corps at the middle and high school levels and the WSU Emerging Scholars Program at the college level, have received not only local, but national recognition for their dramatic results. Professor Kahn has received many honors and awards for teaching, as well as for his work in support of the Detroit Public Schools and the students of Detroit. Most recently, the Michigan Section of the Mathematical Association of America awarded him the prestigious 2003 Distinguished College or University Teaching Award. A part of the Wayne State faculty since 1981, Dr. Kahn holds a B.S. in Mathematics from SUNY, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Mathematics from the University of Maryland.


Monica McLeod
Monica McLeod, Associate Director of the Center for Excellence and Equity in Mathematics, has worked with the programs of the Center for over 10 years, including successfully operating the WSU Math Program at University Preparatory Academy. Ms. McLeod has served as director of WSU Math Corps Site I since 2008. Since beginning her career as a middle-school math teacher in Detroit Public Schools, Ms. McLeod has built a reputation for exceptional teaching, insightful curriculum development, and educational and administrative leadership. She has B.A. and M.Ed. degrees in mathematics education, both from Wayne State University.


Christopher Nazelli
Christopher Nazelli, director of the WSU Math Corps Site II Summer Programs, has served within the WSU Mathematics Pipeline since 1993. Having joined the WSU faculty in 1995, Mr. Nazelli teaches college courses within, and currently acts as associate director for, the WSU Emerging Scholars Program. With extensive Summer and Saturday Program experience, Mr. Nazelli was picked to lead the expansion of Math Corps in 2005. With the creation of a second camp (Site II), the WSU Math Corps is now able to serve twice the number of students as in previous years. A native Detroiter, Mr. Nazelli holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in Mathematics from Wayne State University.


Richard Pineau
Richard Pineau is the Assistant Program Coordinator of the WSU Math Corps. He started with the Program in 2004 as a College Assistant and has served the Program as a College Instructor and more recently, as the Site Coordinator at Site I. Richard’s involvement in the Math Corps has been extensive as he has worked on several training manuals for the Program and has served on the Selection Committee for several years. Richard’s work has not been limited to just the Math Corps, he has served the Center’s other Programs which include the WSU Middle School Math Program at UPA Middle School and the Rising Scholars Program here at the university. Joining the senior staff in September of 2009, Richard graduated Magna Cum Laude from Wayne State in 2009 and holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Mathematics and a certification in Secondary Education. Currently, he is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Applied Mathematics at Wayne State. Richard is looking forward to expanding his role within the Program and continuing the Program’s mission of helping the children of the city realize their greatness.


Jamal Williams
Jamal began his Math Corps journey at the age of 14, when in 9th grade, his algebra teacher encouraged him to apply to the program in order to improve his grades and increase his chances of attending college. In 1997, Jamal was hired as a High School Teaching Assistant and has participated in every summer camp since then. He credits the program for filling in the holes in his mathematical background, however, Jamal quickly displayed a genuine talent for mathematics. His studies at Wayne State University culminated in 2007 when Jamal earned his Bachelors of Arts degree in Mathematics. Since then, he has entered a Master’s program at WSU with plans to pursue an M.A. in Applied Mathematics. Jamal has worked for Math Corps in a variety of positions; College Assistant, College Instructor and Grade Supervisor. A natural leader from the beginning, he has given generously of his time and talents, serving as a mentor to Detroit kids from middle school through college. He is currently working full time as a Lead Tutor and Math Specialist, mentoring and tutoring college students for the Math Corps College Success Center, a program designed to support Math Corps students while attending Wayne State.
