The Math Corps College Success Center Is in Its Fifth Year!
The Math Corps College Success Center (MCCSC) embraces all former Math Corps students (7th-12th graders) and any former or current Math Corps staff (CA, CI etc…) that have decided to further their education at Wayne State University (WSU). The Success Center’s goal is to assist undergraduate students with academic and non-academic resources in their quest for a college degree from WSU. The MCCSC has been in existence for the past four years and, thanks to a Learning Community Grant from WSU, is continuing its support of over 150 students.
Ms. Wytrice Harris, Interim Program Coordinator for the MCCSC and a former Math Corps instructor, provides students with advising, counseling and budgeting as well as assists them with financial aid, scholarship applications, time-management, resumes and much more. Jamal Williams, MCCSC Math Specialist/Peer Mentor and a former Math Corps kid, provides students with scheduled and walk-in tutoring and regular homework sessions. Jamal, along with two other former Math Corps kids, Joseph Ratcliff III and Antwuan Williams, round out the staff as the MCCSC Peer Mentors who make themselves available to students to help them navigate through university life.
The MCCSC continues to foster the sense of family that is the cornerstone of the Math Corps program by providing free dinners to the MCCSC family every Thursday evening. The dinners are filled with food, fellowship and fun and allow opportunity for the Math Corps family to stay connected. The ultimate goal of the MCCSC is to assist students in successfully completing their undergraduate studies with a degree in hand and with the help of the MCCSC it can be done!
